Figure it out
I write about figuring out your money: I’m learning more and more about what that actually means
We were sitting around a dinner table talking about life. My older sister, who I look up to a lot, said something about raising independent kids that made me grab my phone to jot a note down to write about.
On having boys out of the house, married, and doing life on their own she said…
“As they’re growing up it’s our responsibility to teach them how to figure it out. Then we have to let them go figure it out.”
They’re still there for the phone calls and questions and guidance as the boys seek it out, but it’s on them now to trust what they’ve learned and figure out life as it comes.
Money
I’m building a community for people to do this very thing with their money.
Or should I say it this way:
I’m building a community for you to do this very thing with your money.
It started with personal experience, and then conversation after conversation with others encountering much of the same.
Life costs money.
We try to understand it. We want to do well with it. But failed attempts to actually figure it out this time leave us hoping it will all just work out somehow.
Then we keep on stuck in this lifecycle.
Living with this approach toward our money inevitably leads to a roller coaster of emotions.
Payday feels good.
Paying the mortgage does not.
Neither does the unexpected repair we weren’t ready for.
Opening the checking account to see where our balance stands is even worse.
The impulse buy is a shot of adrenaline, even though it’s with money we might or might not have.
But then payday rolling back around settles things once again for a moment before the ride starts back up again.
Who do you know that is living life like this? Would you share this with them?
Life doesn’t have to exist like this.
